One truth about your Degree

Image
Universities/Polytechnics degrees were not created to guarantee you a job.Having a degree never has, and never will, guarantee you a job. A degree is proof you wanted to learn, can learn and will keep learning. It should show your mind has been stretched and twisted, contradicted and challenged, moulded and remoulded . Do you have a degree? More importantly, did you learn anything while pursuing the degree? Then use it to solve the problems around you and you automatically have a job. That sure didn't sound like rocket science, or did it?

Dealing with Debt - 4 (See Reasons people get into debt).

Image
In my last article on this series , I showed how natural occurrences drag people into debt sometimes, I also proved that not all debts come as a result of the mismanagement of our financial resources. In this article, we will be looking at another category of reasons why people get into debt, I call them… FINANCIAL REASONS: They deal with our relationship as individuals with money, they include some financially harmful habits that are guaranteed to bring those practicing them to points of debt no matter how much they wish to avoid it. They include; 1.) Ignorance of the Laws of Money: I have come to understand that just like in other areas of life, money has laws that you must follow to guarantee its maximization. Just as you can't eat food through your ears, or walk with your head (these things appear to be basic and common to all, but it’s all because we have generally accepted them and therefore can’t act otherwise), likewise you can't just treat money anyw...

DO SOMETHING

Image
Tithing alone doesn't make you rich, it opens up the heavens for your blessings to come down, but you must have something with which you will use to trap and sustain the blessings. If all you do is pay tithe, go home and wait without actively engaging your skills, & talents in producing and adding value, you will soon hate tithing and anyone that raises that topic around you. Go to work and DO SOMETHING!

DEALING WITH DEBT - 3 (REASONS WHY PEOPLE GET INTO DEBT).

Image
Many people think that once you are in debt, you are a bad manager of financial resources, but I beg to differ, because that is not true and will never be true. We need to understand this fact when dealing with debt as an issue. Research has shown that there are reasons why people find themselves in debt for no fault of theirs, and I will be dealing with one of them, which will be my second category of the reasons why people get into debt(you can get the previous ' dealing with debt' articles here ). So here it is:  2.)  NATURAL REASONS : They can also be termed to be legitimate reasons. In life, there are situations everyone prays never to encounter, they come like tsunamis or earthquakes and ruthlessly deal with us and our finances without looking back. Take for example; a.) Health challenges: By this, I do not mean slight headaches, stomach upsets, malaria and typhoid fever that everyone in my country knows how to treat without even visiting a specialist (which is ...

DEALING WITH DEBT - 2 (REASONS WHY PEOPLE GET INTO DEBT)

Image
In my last  article , I shared my experience with a brother and the need for us to educate those close to us on the importance of living a debt free life; I also made clear my conviction that we can live a fulfilled life without having the rope of debt hanging on our neck. Also I stated clearly that it won’t be a smooth and easy ride out of debt, but that with the right mindset and giving it all it would demand, one can live a debt free life, as many people have done. In this article, I will be showing you some reasons why people get into debt and signs showing that you are either in debt our on your way into debt. These reasons are not some strange facts that you have never heard of in your life, rather they are issues that we face most often as we journey through life. You may be able to identify some, most, or even all of them either in your life at one point or the other or in the lives of those around you. But I have grouped them into categories, and the reason is for you...

DEALING WITH DEBT - 1 (AN INTRODUCTION)

Image
Etuhu (not his real name) was more than a friend, he was a brother. I desire always, to have around me people that are excelling in their chosen fields who also love Jesus passionately, once I observe that you have these two attributes, you become my brother or sister. Etuhu fitted perfectly; he was a brother that I cherished hanging around and discussing anything that crossed my mind with. All these were to change after he lost his job, and then came the most trying season of my relationship with Etuhu. There was a need to settle an urgent financial issue and there was no money to meet that need; actually someone had promised to help him with the money (I confirmed that personally because I saw the text message), but there was a slight delay and the issue could not wait, and so as a brother, I stepped in and lent him the needed amount which was slightly above my salary for one month then. Time to pay up came and passed and I didn’t get the money. That began a journey that t...

AS WE GET SET TO RECEIVE MARCH 2017, READ THIS.

Image
February 2017 has just few days left to pass, I hope you met your financial goals? Can you give a good account of your financial life so far in this month? How much did you make this month? How much did you spend? On feeding, transportation, tithe, offerings, fuel, recharge cards, gifts, clothes, investment, savings, Education, debt repayments, etc do you know? How much did you save? Whatever your answer might be, permit me to remind you that this is actually the best time to prepare financially for March 2017. By this I mean your having a financial plan clearly outlined and quantified in monetary terms using a budget. You should not prepare your budget when you have received your 'alert', or after you finish spending your money, rather it should be done prior to getting the money. This will help you to among other things to, 1.) Gain control over your money. 2.) Know your financial limits thereby helping you from making dangerous assumptions and over spending. ...

WHO WILL YOUR SWORD KILL?

Image
"It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill." - 1 Kings 19:17 Many people never met God or developed faith in God through the ministry of Kenneth E. Hagin before his death,or Kenneth Copeland,  but they did that through Bishop David O. Oyedepo , yet for some others like me, they had no direct encounter with the Bishop but got theirs through Pastor Bankole Olusina (Pastor Bankie) whose life, the Bishop has blessed and is still blessing, and just as it is with life, many won’t receive from Pastor Bankie but will not be left out because they met ME and will receive the same from me. ‘Indirectly’ the ministries of Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland has blessed me. Likewise some people like me never really got to know what God did in the area of gospel music in Nigeria through a legend like Dr Panam Percy Paul, but will roll on the floor once when we hear anything that sounds like Pastor Nath...

Financial Tip from the Bus stop-2

Image
In my last post , I shared a story about our staff bus, myself and some of my colleagues. The lesson there has to do with ‘ knowledge’, there were days when I came to the bus stop later than usual, knowing that the bus would have passed, I sought for other means of getting to the office, and of course, it will cost me additional time, energy and resources to get this done. But for that day in question, the fact that I saw the bus pass meant that I possessed the knowledge that I wasn’t late even though the time for staff bus to come had passed. I also wasn’t bothered when some of my colleagues sought for another means to get to the office, also because I knew well enough that the staff bus would still come. The central word from the above is knowledge and that’s the point I want you to understand. Knowledge about finances and its principles is something you cannot afford to be ignorant about, if you must dominate your world financially. Knowledge generally is defined as a famil...

Financial Tip from the Bus stop - 1

Image
I am privileged to serve with an organization that provides free transportation for its staff to and from their office locations. The staff bus that is attached to my own location goes past my own bus stop by 6:00 am every working day (Monday - Saturday) to pick a colleague living some kilometers away from me after which it follows the same route back to pick me and others ( whose bus stop is few poles away from mine) at 6:20 am. On 16th December 2016, something happened.I got to my bus stop 6:11 am and started waiting for the bus to arrive. While I waited, I was reading the book of Proverbs on my phone and periodically looking down the road by my left to see if the bus was coming. Around 6:16 am, the bus sped past me unusually from the right and raced towards the direction of the other colleague that lived further down the road, I got the point; the bus was late in coming and was rushing to meet up with our 7:00 am resumption time. After that small incident, I relaxed and continu...

Thou art inexcusable...

Never settle with the mindset that all you need to succeed is money and that lack of it makes you a failure, you have many things at your disposal, check out, Relationships and People you know, Opportunities, Energy, passion, Certificates, skills and talents, Influence, fine or ugly face,(depending on how you see it), your height, shape, (short, tall, fat, slim anyone can be a powerful tool for success), Experiences (your story can motivate others), Location (Environment & Neighborhood), gadgets, Access to internet & social media (yes social media, facebook, twitter, LinkedIn etc), Land, House, Water, Electricity, ideas, failures, village, tribe, dialect, language......the list is endless. You may not have all these and more put together, but believe me, one of it properly harnessed and maximized or a combination of some of them, is enough to ensure continuous flow of financial resources to you. Romans 2:1- Thou art inexcusable...

Between God's Money and You-Why Poverty has not lost your address.

Image
A friend, or an acquaintance, really needed help with clothes and you gave him some of your best clothes that cost you quite a fortune to get, clothes you put on only during special occasions. You come out another day only to see him putting on the clothes on his way to the farm to clear and till his farm, and you also see him in the evening with the clothes messed up from working in the farm. Six months later he comes back to you to ask for another set of clothes, here is the question, will you give him, if yes what type will you give him? Clothes better than the ones you gave him before or those lower in grade? Before you answer, read the next line or have you answered already, just chill first and read the next line. For how long have you been asking God for financial increase? Do you understand that you are only a steward with the resources at your disposal? They don't really belong to you. Have you recognized that God gave you money trusting you to be responsible ...

Ben Carson's Prayer, Miracle & Subsequent Action.

Image
“God, You pulled off a miracle," I told Him as I left the classroom. "And I make a promise to You that I'll never put You into that situation again." The quote above is credited to Dr Ben Carson, a Christian, also an American retired surgeon, author, and politician. He was the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, a former U.S Presidential aspirant under the Republican party and is the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. in President Donald Trump’s cabinet. If you have read his book or seen the movie, ‘Gifted Hands’ you will remember the story he told of how God miraculously delivered him from failing a Chemistry test in Premed program which would have dashed his dream of becoming a Medical Doctor. I urge you to get a copy of the book if you have not read it to get to full story, or a review of it here , so that you will understand the context from which I am writing this piece. My take away lesson from the ...

A thought from the First rain.

Image
On Monday, 23rd January 2017, it rained for the first time this year in my current location, I was in the office and suddenly, the heavens opened and down came the rain, it was slightly heavy, but never lasted long enough to rid the ground of the accumulated heat and dust of the harmattan and dry season. Immediately my mind raced towards the planting season and it came to me again, that if it rains well for at least two times after this first one, the farmers will pick up their tools and head to the farm. In a split second, Genesis 8:22 played out in my sub conscious mind and it was like I could literally feel the verse unfold before me. In case you are not conversant with that scripture, it says “While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”(ESV). God in his infinite power has divided the cycle of life into times and seasons, I see it like this, He has given the sons of men the privilege to take advantage of past ...
